Testosterone has been in clinical use for over 60 years, yet the choice of preparations was very limited until recently and substitution therapy of hypogonadal patients was not ideal. During the last several years a number of new injectable, transdermal and buccal preparations have become available, and as clinical experience accumulates the advantages and disadvantages of the various preparations become evident.
Physicians treating hypogonadal men need in-depth knowledge of the various testosterone preparations in order to inform the patients adequately and to select with them the best preparation for the purpose of the individual patient. The focus of this symposium is on testosterone undecanoate, the new long-acting injectable testosterone preparation (Nebido®). The four presentations and the discussion will familiarize the clinician with the pros and cons of this new form of testosterone substitution.
